From Our Readers

Dear Readers:

The National Charter School Clearinghouse has been in operation for about 15 months (give or take a few days) and we have wondered from time to time what impact we are making in the charter school community. Occasionally we get "kudos" on an article and sometimes we receive a thank you, but this is the first time that we have received an opinion in writing. So we are happy to say, thanks for reading and we certainly hope that you are benefiting from our publications.

Sincerely,

Andrea Zavislak

Dear Andrea,

In reading the horror story, it made me think that the public sector does not have to face those costs within their budgets, especially when the bill gets large. Often they are allowed to collect additional "revenue" so that legal problems do not affect classrooms. Not so with Charter Schools. Since the majority of funding is based on State Education Revenue and not on Property taxes, Charter Schools are already disadvantaged. This horror story was probably the hearing officer's indictment of Charter Schools, rather than a common sense and legal evaluation of the facts. The father and daughter will go through life poking the system at every turn. Obviously they are above average intelligence and have the energy to devote to these tactics, where most people are concentrating on the genuineness of life
as it ought to be lived. These are the incidences that cause the dedicated and motivated Charter School operators to fold. Unfortunately the media would at this moment side with the perpetrators, leaving the Charter School with nothing but a cloud over its head.
