The Bodman Foundation provides 34% of its grants to college, literacy programs, school privatization, charter school issues, and higher education. The foundation was established in 1945 by the late George M. Bodman, a senior partner in the New York City brokerage firm of Cyrus J. Lawrence and Sons. The Foundation provides funds for conferences/seminars, general support, operating expenses, projects, research, scholarships, and seed money. Specific areas of interest in the field of education include after school/enrichment programs, arts/humanities, business education; colleges & universities; economic education; education associations; education reform; elementary education; literacy; medical education; minority education; preschool education; school volunteerism; science/mathematics, social sciences; special education; and student aid. Recent grants have ranged from $10,000 to $150,000 and the foundation awarded nearly $3 million in 2000.
