This month we are spotlighting Janine Vanderburg a grantwriter located in Colorado and who has more than 10 years of experience in grantwriting and fundraising. Janine is the principal for Janine Vanderburg Associates (JVA), which provides proposal writing, research, business planning, training and other consultation to schools and school districts, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, foundations and corporate grant makers. JVA has extensive experience writing successful proposals both to government agencies and to private foundations for a wide range of education initiatives.
Recently awarded grants include a $9 million Safe Schools, Healthy Students Initiative grant, which funded a truancy program, security upgrades, mental health services and other supportive services for Denver Public Schools students; a $20 million Youth Opportunity grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, which funded school-to-career opportunities for low-income youth; a three-year, $525,000 Bilingual Education Program Development and Implementation grant for teacher training and other services for a new dual language Montessori school; a Smaller Learning Communities planning grant from the US Department of Education for West High School in Denver; Colorado Reading Excellence Act (CREA) grants totaling over $1 million from the Colorado Department of Education for Denver’s Barrett Elementary School and Cheltenham Elementary School, and two Sheridan, Colorado, elementary schools; and two 21st Century Community Learning Center grants for after school programs in northeast and in southwest Denver (approximately $2 million each).
