The Smart Family Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations throughout the U.S. In 2002, the Foundation awarded more than $7 million in grants, with 30% of the awards going to educational organizations, including charter schools. Grant awards range from $3,000 to $100,000 and 39% of the foundation’s giving goes to education. Specific areas of interest in the field of education include afterschool/enrichment programs, business education; colleges & universities; continuing education; education reform; elementary education; environmental education; faculty development; international studies; leadership training; medical education; private education; public education; science/mathematics; and social sciences education.
